Ya'll are awesome!

There...my southern charm shining through;o) I just wanted to say thanks for your responses to my last question. Your encouragement means so much, and your suggestions are helping me to refocus my vision of what this blog should be about. I think...dare I hope...that I am actually feeling remotivated to continue blogging!

Here are some more questions in my getting to know you series. I specially selected these, because I think they will help define us and reach the heart of what's REALLY important in our lives. Besides that, I like being nosy and I'd seriously love to know. Answer all of these, or just pick one or two. I'm digging deep here, so are you ready? Can you handle this? Here we go:

1. Dog, cat, other or none? Why?
2. Love or hate the movie "Napolean Dynamite"?
3. Favorite delusion about yourself?
4. Decadent chocolate brownie smothered in chocolate or fresh strawberries with whipped cream?
5. For the wives, what was your first impression of that guy you married? What was your husband's first impression of you?

My answers:

1. Dog. (No, REALLY?;o) I think dogs are the most relational with people (Cat people will vehemently deny this, I'm sure), and I want a pet that loves my company. In fact...I want to be my pet's ENTIRE world. I want her to live for sitting at my feet and wagging her little tail every time I look at her. Rather narcissistic, but true.

2. This is painful to admit, but I have probably seen this film at a least dozen times. (I'll blame that on my husband, since it's one of his favorite movies ever and he simply HAD to receive the DVD for his birthday!) Yes. I will confess to liking the movie. I will confess to more than one instance of uttering the words: "YESSSSSSSSS." and "Whatever I want...GOSSSHHH!"

3. When I was in college, I used to like to think of myself as one of those girls in movies who sit at sidewalk cafes drinking hot tea whilst reading books that will expand their horizons and render them brilliant and sophisticated. When enlightenment strikes, they pull out their leather journals and dreamily pen their bits of found wisdom. Then they gaze into the distance...[scene shifts to dusky street scene, probably in some quaint European village]...

4. I like chocolate. But I LOVVVE strawberries and would probably pick them (assuming freshness and seasonality) in all instances except for perhaps "that time" of the month.

5. He was quiet. His eyes were amazing. He was the guy who said "hi" to me for two months in passing, causing significant anxiety for me who was trying to remember his name without having to ask him again. Unfortunately for my narcissism, my husband doesn't even remember our first meeting. But he must have liked me pretty well, because at least he remembered MY name thereafter;o)

Me again. If I'm starting to creep you out with my quick comments, I have your RSS feed marked and am at the computer too often, so it's easy to pop in as soon as I see a new feed, LOL. Before answering the 5, I wanted to make one more comment to something you said: "your suggestions are helping me to refocus my vision of what this blog should be about." -- I just want to encourage you not to write FOR US. Especially not for those of us you really don't know. :) It's easy to start getting comment/reader driven, and then to start stressing out "did I say too much fluff? No one has commented! Was it too deep? Where did my readers go?" ... and then find yourself trying to do the high wire act with an umbrella, 2 deep thoughts, one dog story, etc ... so write for yourself. Decide for yourself what your "blog vision" is and stick to it. My sister actually had a beautiful "blog manifesto" of her purpose. You don't need to go that far, of course, but don't let US drive YOU. :-)

1. -- two cats at the moment, but now with 6 children I'd be "petless" if there was an easy way to free ourselves from the pets :-( I'd love to still love them, but honestly, they make more work than I have time for. I feel so mean saying that.
2. -- amused by it, but neither loved nor hated it
3. -- in my mind, I'm thinner
4. -- brownie with chocolate, fresh strawberries AND whipped cream. See #3 LOL
5. -- Ha! Very very first impression: I had no idea how old he was, and thought he looked "like a Republican" ... in his navy slacks, blue button-down oxford, red Republican Tie, and short round haircut, he could've been 18 like I was at the time, he could've been 40. I had no idea. This was, for reference, in my free spirit hippie-wanna-be college days.

I've had the same experience - some VERY supportive readers who are nice enough to leave insightful comments on a regular basis. I feel fortunate.

Hi Erin, it's good to know that you are feeling motivated to blog again. I have to second what Kim said about not writing for US because that would make blogging very difficult. Everyone looks for different things in blogs, and someone will always think that your blog is "too this, or not enough of that".
But above all, your blog is wonderful just the way it is! To answer your questions:

1)I have always had a dog, so that's probably why I'm especially partial to very hyperactive slobbery dogs :)
2)I like the movie, and I have also been known to say "I do what I want...GOSH!!!
3)That I have it all together. Ha! How quickly reality sets in at these moments.
4)Definately, I'd take the strawberries and whipped cream! Except, like you said, at that time of the month :)
5)He was the type who always made me laugh, probably because he was always laughing or smiling himself.

Kim and Samantha...I think you are both right, and I really appreciate what you're saying. That's always what I've strived to do with my blog, but I think I hit a snag where I wasn't sure where I wanted to go with it anymore. So I was trying to gain some inspiration.

I do sometimes compare my blog or my writing or even my subject matter to others' more than I should, and I think that partially caused the uncertainty. But the encouragement I received from you guys and other readers has helped me to refocus on making this blog be about what I have to share. I'll try not worry about how it might compare to someone else's.

I'm especially glad that ppl don't mind the eclectic nature of this blog, because that has been a concern: Should I narrow it down to focus on just one or a few aspects of my interests? I've decided not to at this point...I think eclectic-ness (is that a word?) keeps blogging more interesting for me:o)

Oh, and interesting answers, too! Kim, now I'm curious as to how old your husband really was!

BTW, Kim...I don't consider you creepy at all:o)

Hi there Erin
1. Both
2. You know, Ive never seen it, but I just went to imdb.com and read about it and I think Ill take it out soon! Is it like Wayne's World? Cause I loved that!
3. Just like the lady above - that Im thinner!
4. Love chocolate, but gotta go for the strawberries.
5. I thought, "gee he's a nice looking guy, but he looks like he's had a lot of late nights!" (He had). He thought I had nice big blue eyes (he still does 20 years later)

It seems these questions are fun enough to bring out some of the lurkers...

1. Right now I would have to say cat. We have three cats and with both of us working it is easier to have animals that are a little more independent.
2. I saw this movie recently – my husband bought it and I ended up not having strong feelings about it one way or the other. Is it perhaps something that you need to see more than once to get it?
3. Yeah, I need to go with the delusion that I am much thinner than I am.
4. Yum to both. But, I would go for the strawberry first unless I’m in a hormonal PMS way and then it would be the chocolate.
5. He had the bluest eyes I had ever seen.

1. I'm a cat person....dogs are so energetic... Lol...but we have neither sadly due to living in a flat.

2. Never seen it but might get it when next I hire a movie.

3. Chocolate all the way except that my little baby girl seems to be getting bad tummy pains from me eating it. :( So if that that keeps up it'd be the strawberries.

4.He plays the piano so well! I'm not sure what his first impression of me was since we met outside a toilet block & discussed piano briefly and messy dorms....I was 12 & he was 17.

What fun!!! Is it alright if I just jump on in???

1)I love cats and dogs BUT cats don't smell nearly as often nor as bad as dogs do!!! :)

2)It's okay. I was SHOCKED, though, that it was clean AND an MTV film!!!

3) Delusions!! HAHA!! Good question!! I look in the mirror and think "Ah, well, that's not too bad! I don't look TOO overweight!!" And then I see a picture of myself! LOL!! Then I think "What in the world happened?????"!! HAHAHA!!

4) Chocolate... Unless I had just seen a picture of myself and the delusions of myself had been recently shattered. HAA!!!

5) Before Mr. U and I met (we met online), he had told me that he had "salt and pepper" colored hair (he went grey early). When we met and I looked at him for the first time, I thought "Well, looks like you've got a little more salt than pepper there, buddy!" HAHAHAHA!!

His,
Mrs. U

Hi Erin! Well, I never got around to commenting on your first questions--hope it;s OK if I do that now, as well as the new ones! As far as what I most enjoy reading about . . .

2. Day to day life
3. Household tips, recipes, etc.
4. Pieces that lay bare the soul
1. Current events

. . . in that order! So I guess I'm rather eclectic in my tastes, a la #6. :)

As for the new questions:

1. Well, I'm definitely a dog person, but at this time I fall into the "none" category, as we have no pets. We hope to get a dog someday, though! Preferably a bigger dog, like a lab, although I do think corgis are SO cute, and they're a nice medium size.

2. I've never seen this movie! Never heard of it till now!

3. Delusion: probably that I can eat whatever I want and not gain weight, like I could in high school . . . yeah right! That was 10+ years ago! :D

4. Ummm, can I choose all of the above?? LOL . . .

5. My first impression: I thought he was a little vain! In fact, I told my mom, "he's cute and he knows it!" Later on I found out he was not really vain at all--that was a wrong first impression! I also noticed, however, that he had gorgeous blue-green eyes and big strong hands. Still 2 of my favorite things about him! His first impression of me: He loved my long, blond hair, and he says he somehow knew I was the one he was going to marry, the first time he saw me. Isn't that sweet?! :)

These are my kinda questions, Erin! (Mrs. U, your responses cracked me up!)

1. If I weren't allergic, I'd have a dog, though I love cats, too.
2. LOVE. We own it. "TINA, come get some HAM!"
3. That I am an organized person.
4. I can't believe I am saying this...but the strawberries. When I am not pregnant, it'd be the chocolate. Fresh whipped cream, though--MMM! And I am lamenting the end of strawberry season.
5. My first impression was that Ryan had a kind expression--kindness in his eyes and voice. He said his first impression of me was that I was "old," (we met at church) because I had on a long skirt, boots, and had short hair! (He's a trip.)

Hi, here's a lurker coming out of the woodwork.

1. Definitely a dog person. But the man I married is decidedly *not*. We currently have a cat (whom I claim is half-dog: Chewing shoes, chasing balls, drinking from the toilet, playing with toddlers).

DH (dear husband) has agreed to let me start looking for a dog in the spring, when our youngest is closer to a year. I think you might imagine how excited I am :D.

2. Never seen it. Other things on my to-be-watched list before I start looking for more.

3. Hmmm, that my writing is brilliant & insightful; that people actually read it ;o)

4. Ooo. I like homemade brownies, but not the mego choc kind. I have to bend the question and say (real) cocoa homemade icecream.

I'm afraid I choose fresh raspberries over strawberries too. Golly, I'm breaking all the rules...

5. I remember disproving of this guy sitting all cozy w/ his girlfriend during a vespers service (no, not b/c I was attracted to him, b/c I felt that public affection was reserved for married people). His first reaction to me was that I was the second-least attractive girl in the college youth-group.

Naturally things have changed. At least, he has a higher oppinion of my appearence now. I'm not sure I approve any more about unmarried "cozyness" in church. Haven't been tested recently...

My dog, because I LOVE her! :)

2. Love or hate the movie "Napolean Dynamite"?
I never saw it.

3. Favorite delusion about yourself?
That I am thin.

4. Decadent chocolate brownie smothered in chocolate or fresh strawberries with whipped cream?
Are you kidding? Brownies, lots and lots of brownies!

5. For the wives, what was your first impression of that guy you married? What was your husband's first impression of you?
Darn it, I would love to be answer this one :)

Great questions!! Thanks Erin,

Wow, I'm surprised that so many people have never seen Napolean!

Let this be a disclaimer: Most likely, you WILL either hate (and I mean HATE) the movie, or you will pretty much love it. The only exception is that sometimes ppl feel so-so about the movie and then it really grows on them. If you watch it and hate it, don't say I didn't warn you:o)

(I don't understand how people can hate a movie with so many wonderful quotable lines!

"This is pretty much the worst movie ever made!" "Napolean...like anyone can even know that!")

Ooh, I love quizzes:

1. Dogs all the way! Cats are okay, but dogs are the best!
2. Never saw the movie.
3. I think I generally have a far better opinion of myself than is warranted! (My favorite delusion is that I can eat whatever I want and not gain weight -- which is decidedly untrue.)
4. Strawberries!

5. I first laid eyes on my husband when he and a friend were blocking the assignment bulletin board in the law school lounge. I remember thinking he looked very wholesome and that he and his friend looked like a picture in a law school catalogue.

When I first met my husband (we lived in the same building), he thought (incorrectly) that I was going to invite him to a Bible study because I was acting so perky, cheery, and outgoing.

Hi Erin!
What fun :)...

1.We don't have either...hubby is allergic to cats and we just didn't have enough time for our dog so when an opportunity came up for her to go to someone who had the time for her that she needed (she was one needy pup! :)) we gave her up. It was even harder than I thought it would be, but I know it was best for her :(.

2.I don't think I've even heard of that movie...

3.That "someday" I'll finally get it all together...

4.Definitely the chocolate, and not just because I'm pregnant ;).

5.When my mom picked me up from work that day (I was only 15 :)) I told her I had met the man I was going to marry.

My answers:
1. Dog - I agree with you; they're more relational with people than cats!
2. Haven't seen the movie... though I'm told I should.
3. I like to think I'm pretty (but then, don't we all like to imagine ourselves gorgeous? :))...
4. Fresh strawberries with whipped cream!!!!
5. Not married yet... not even dating at the moment. :/
