A blog-friend and I are inquiring:
What are the etiquette rules and legalities concerning downloading pictures from the web? Also, what can we practically do (and where can we practically find pictures) to make sure that we are not violating any of them?

What happend to me is that I've seen pictures that I love on a certain blog. The blogger had a link so I checked out the site (Susan Rios Inc.) and then e-mailed Susan Rios (the site owner) to ask for permission to use her pictures and she was nice but said 'no' because of licensing agreements she has with other people (whatever that means).
So just providing a link doesn't mean we aren't infringing on a copyright. When I did my article for Keepers...before I could reprint their article I had to ask for permission--which they gave as long as I did it in it's entirety and posted their copyright.
google this phrase "Public Domain" That should help you find pictures.
http://www.sxc.hu/ I'm a freelance writer and sometimes need pictures. This site allows you to choose pictures with no restrictions at all. Sometimes the photographers ask that you let them know just because they're curious. :) Hope this helps. There is another PDPhoto.com, I think. I'm not sure they'll have the type of pictures you want but there are some nice ones. You can type in key words at stockexchange (the first one I posted) and you'd be amazed at all the different pics.
